The emperor’s voice resonated with anger.
“Didn’t you report the wrong information about my brother?”
“Him?”
Ian’s eyes gleamed with a cold intensity. Edward had a hunch as a shiver ran down his spine. If he doesn’t get through this safely, he will lose his life.
“Your Majesty. I fell into a trap.”
Edward shouted, glaring at the pink hair peeking out behind Ian.
“That’s what screwed me over. She was the one who told me about the secret passage and also the one who tipped off the treason plot!”
Edward’s scathing shout caused whispers to emerge from various corners.
“Her?”
“Did you mean the saintess?”
Edward nodded hastily.
“That woman is not a saintess or anything. She is my minion!”
“Saintess Irene is your servant?”
The emperor glared at Edward as if he would tear him apart at any moment.
“Are you out of your mind?”
“Please believe me, Your Majesty. There is solid evidence!”
Edward shouted urgently. The Imperial Knights exchanged confused glances with one another.
‘What do you mean by saying that there is evidence? Is there any evidence that the saintess is not actually a saintess?’
‘Shouldn’t he be arrested for blasphemy right now?’
Amidst a flood of glares, Edward pointed at Irene.
“Try rolling up that woman’s thigh!”
“Crazy bastard.”
“You must be crazy!”
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, the knights of the royal guard uttered a word one by one.
Rolling up the lady’s thighs in front of so many people. That was something no sane gentleman would ever say out loud.
The emperor was so angry that he glared at Edward with a cold glare.
“How dare you order me to lift the saintess’s thighs right now?”
“There is solid evidence there. If you just check that, you’ll be able to trust me! Number 76!”
Edward shouted, glaring in Irene’s direction.
“Come out here right now and tell me the truth!”
Irene cautiously peered out from behind Ian’s shoulder.
Irene’s golden eyes were wide and watery as she looked at Edward. Upon seeing that sight, Maxime couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
‘She is embarrassed.’
Not only was her private time suddenly interrupted, but she was also insulted by a bastard who told her she was not a saintess. She was also subjected to harassment by a man who made obscene remarks about her thighs.
Even if Maxime were Irene herself, this situation felt unbearably shameful.
‘If His Majesty told me to beat up that guy right away, I would gladly do as ordered!’
Maxime gritted his teeth as he glared at the shameless Edward.
“Good. If you don’t want to report this, I’ll make you do it!”
Edward gasped for breath and lifted his hand.
He then made a grand gesture by rubbing his index finger and thumb together.
“…….”
“…….”
Nothing happened.
Maxime, who had been wary because he thought Edward was using magic, felt despondent. Edward furrowed his brow as he rubbed his fingers together, a look of confusion crossing his face.
“That can’t be true. Why is there no reaction…… Are you holding it in? Ha! It won’t be an unbearable pain!”
Edward, who absentmindedly rubbed his fingers, looked like he was out of his mind. In Maxime’s view, he was a patient who should have been admitted to a psychiatric ward a long time ago.
Maxime was now not only angry at his ungentlemanly behaviour but even felt pathetic to him.
“S-Sir Ian.”
Irene’s voice trembled as she whispered.
“I’m scared.”
“Y-You’re so fake!”
Edward erupted in a fit of angry laughter. Irene was startled once again, causing her to quickly seek refuge behind Ian’s shoulder.
“That dirty tongue.”
Hiding Irene behind him, Ian drew her sword.
“I’ll break him in two right now.”
“S-Sir Ian. You’re being deceived!”
Edward was startled, and this time he shouted out to Ian as if he were pleading.
“That woman is a member of our team. We had her secretly enter Ian’s bedroom. I’m not sure how that person managed to smooth talk, Sir Ian, but she definitely fooled you!”
“I will make you regret every single word you said today.”
Ian’s eyes were cold, chilling the very air as he spoke.
Edward staggered back, looking at Ian approaching me with his sword drawn.
“Sir Ian, please just listen to me. All you have to do is lift that woman’s thighs once! By now, the curse will have been activated and the symbol will be clearly visible!”
“Your Majesty.”
Ian, with cold, burning eyes, scowled lowly.
“Where on earth did you get this mentally ill person?”
“Sir Ian, please!”
At that time, a faintly trembling voice intervened.
“Sir Ian.”
Ian looked back.
Irene was holding Ian’s wrist with a scared expression.
“I’m okay.”
“Irene.”
“If things continue like this, even if that person is just punished, doubts about me will remain in the minds of the people here.”
‘No, saintess!’
Maxim thought in surprise.
‘Who listens to that crazy bastard?’
To Maxim, Irene was just a poor victim bitten by a mad dog.
But it wasn’t wrong about what Irene said. Some of the knights present might have suspected that Edward’s words might be true.
“So, here.”
Irene’s expression stiffened, as if she had made up her mind, and continued.
“Let me remove any suspicion.”
“Irene. You don’t have to. Lucian! Hurry and take my wife to the bedroom so she can rest.”
“No.”
Irene shook her head.
“I really don’t care. I’d rather show my skin like this than be suspected of having deceived Ian.”
With that being said, Irene continued to roll up the hem of her skirt halfway.
‘Oh no!’
Maxime instinctively closed his eyes tightly. But in the next moment, he opened his eyes again, startled by the sound of Edward gasping.
“What is this?”
Irene’s thighs were smooth and she had a fair complexion.
There was not a single blemish on her transparent skin, as if it were made of milk.
There was not even a shadow of the pattern that Edward had mentioned.
“Th-this can’t be happening.”
Edward rambled on, absentmindedly rubbing his fingers once more.
Still nothing happened.
“Uh, why the pattern? Where did the curse go? Ah, that’s right.”
Edward stumbled as he made his way towards Irene.
“It’s makeup. She covered the pattern by placing something on top of it. Once you remove the makeup, the pattern will become immediately visible!”
Edward’s steps quickened as if he were about to touch Irene’s thighs. Irene, startled, released her grip on the hem of her dress and hid behind Ian again.
‘That crazy bastard!’
In response to Edward’s reckless actions, Maxime and the other knights, who were well-versed in chivalry, he instinctively blocked his path.
“The crime of daring to harass my wife.”
Ian forcefully pushed the knights aside and confidently approached Edward.
“It will be difficult to repay even death.”
Ian aimed the tip of his sword at Edward’s forehead, as he spoke.
“Ju-just once. Please give me one more chance.”
Edward spoke gibberish while being pointed in the forehead with the tip of a sharp sword.
“There must be something wrong. This can’t be happening. There must be a curse on it. For sure.”
“Curse?”
Ian chuckled coldly.
“Is there a curse on our saintess?”
Maxime was also surprised. She is a saintess and has a curse on her. There was no blasphemy like this.
“So, I mean.”
“I can’t possibly forgive you, both as her husband and as a member of the Church of Elune.”
Ian cut off Edward’s words as if they were no longer worth listening to.
“Arrest them.”
The assembled Holy Knights immediately carried out his orders.
“Move him to the underground interrogation room.”
“S-Sir Ian. Listen to me! Sir Ian!”
Even though he was tied up and dragged around, Edward did not stop shouting.
Every time he shouted, Irene’s shoulders jerked in surprise.
“Madam.”
Ian wrapped his arms around Irene’s back.
“Please return to your room and take some rest. Don’t think about anything today.”
“I’m sorry for leaving first, Sir Ian.”
Irene said, shaking her shoulders slightly.
“I was so surprised… I think I need to get some rest.”
“Don’t say that. My heart breaks the most for you having to go through something like this.”
Ian whispered softly.
The sight was so heartbreaking that Maxime’s eyes welled up with tears as he watched it.
‘Sir Ian had that kind of side too…’
He had already heard rumours about his intense love for the saintess, to the extent that he took all the jewels of the capital and presented them to her. However, after witnessing it firsthand, he realised her influence was unique.
Maxime found themselves gradually developing a strong support for their love, without even realising it.
“Thank you, Sir Ian.”
Irene wiped away her tears and composed herself with a brave expression.
“Well then, I’ll go in first.”
“Yes. Lucian, please take good care of the saintess.”
“Yes, Commander. Just trust me.”
Lucian exited carefully, making sure to take Irene with him. The knights promptly cleared a path for her.
‘Saintess….. I hope your shocked heart heals well.’
Maxime watched Irene’s back as she walked away.
Ian’s expression changed as soon as Irene was out of his sight.
Ian turned his gaze towards the emperor, his expression as cold and still as ice.
“My wife was seriously hurt by the guy you brought in. What do you plan to do?”
“…….”
The emperor gritted his teeth.
