Ran opened her eyes softly.
The first thing she noticed was the dark room. Ran, then, turned her head slightly.
‘Huh?’
Yustaf was sitting.
‘Is this a dream?’
There are dreams that seem real too. Ran thought so and looked at Yustaf. He was reading the papers in his hand. As he focused on them, Ran was free to look at his profile without interruptions.
Even in the dark room, she could see that his eyes were blue.
Did he grow taller?
‘You’ll grow a lot from now on.’
Ran laughed lightly. Then Yustaf turned his head and looked at her.
“Hi.”
“Are you awake?”
After answering, Ran laughed again. Yustaf reached out and touched her forehead lightly with his hand.
“You don’t have a fever.”
“Yeah, Yustaf’s fingers are pretty.”
Yustaf flinched at Ran’s words. Ran grinned again.
It’s just a dream so she can speak comfortably.
“Are they pretty?”. Yustaf asked while looking at his hands, Ran nodded.
“Yes, they’re long, straight and pretty. You look like you can play musical instruments well. Oh, do you play the piano?”
“Just a little.”
“I want to hear it.”
“I’ll let you hear it when I have time.”
At Yustaf’s answer, Ran smiled lightly and said, “You’re so lethal.”
“What?”
“You’re handsome, you have pretty hands, you play the piano–”
“…….”
“You’re very lethal, Yustaf.”
Yustaf’s blue eyes didn’t even move. Although it’s a dream, she still doesn’t know what he was thinking.
“I’m tired…”
Mumbling softly, Ran covered her eyes with the back of her hand.
“Should I put out the fire?”
“No, just…….”
Ran hesitated and said, “Yus.”
“Yes.”
“Don’t kill me.”
“……”
There was no answer.
“I’ll do my best…”
Ran sighed and fell asleep again.
It was around dawn that she woke up again. Looking blankly at the now brightened ceiling of the bed, Ran turned to find Yustaf.
He sat in the same spot as the one in her dream. This time he wasn’t looking at the documents, rather he was looking at her.
“Are you awake?”
“Yus…?”
“Yes.”
“Is this a dream?”
Yustaf’s cold face frowned slightly.
“No, it’s not.
“Uh…?”
Unaware of the situation, Ran stared blankly at Yustaf, and then suddenly sat up.
“Really?!”
Ran’s head started spinning after sitting up so quickly. Yustaf got up from his seat and pushed her shoulders down back to the bed.
“I’ll call a doctor, so please lie down.”
“What happened? Is it winter? Did I sleep for half a year?”
Hearing her nonsense ramblings, Yustaf pulled the rope and said,
“No, it’s been two days since you collapsed.”
“But why is Yus here……?”
Ran asked, then shook her head.
“No, it’s not that I don’t like you being here. It’s still the middle of the semester–”
“I was on my way back. I’m glad I made it on time”
“Are you coming back?”
Ran’s face had hardened.
“What happened at the Academy? Who bothered you?”
“No, it’s nothing like that”
Yustaf said and looked at Ran thoughtfully. Ran asked with concern now.
“But why? What happened?”
“The Academy has a system called early graduation.”
“Huh?”
“My Lord, you said you wanted it.”
“Huh?”
“I completed the credits and took my exams early. Unless there is someone who gets a perfect score after me, I will be the top student.”
Ran opened her eyes wide.
“Are you satisfied?”
“That’s great!”
Ran smiled brightly.
“T..That’s amazing. You are so awesome, Yustaf. Really awesome.”
Early graduation, perfect score.
“You’re great Yus.”
“Not as much as you.”
“Huh?”
Ran asked just as the doctor came in. The elderly doctor looked at Ran and gave a diagnosis.
“As expected, you’re overworked. Eat well and rest for a few days.”
“I can’t do that.”
Ran replied and laughed. The doctor sighed and said, “Then for now, I’ll prescribe some medicine that helps your body.”
“Yes.”
Ran nodded. After the doctor left, Ran got out of bed.
Her white bare feet touched the fluffy carpet. Yustaf unconsciously looked at Ran’s bare feet. He then turned his gaze back to Ran’s face and said,
“Don’t you think you should rest?”
“Yes, but work has just begun. This is the time when we have the most work.”
Yustaf grabbed Ran by the shoulders as she was about to get up.
“Yus?”
Ran’s green eyes looked at Yustaf with surprise. Yustaf pushed her back onto the bed softly. Her shoulders under his hands were much thinner than expected, so Yustaf held back his sigh and said,
“Take a break. I came here because you said you were busy with work.”
Her lips parted at his words.
“That was your reason?”
“I had the qualifications for early graduation conditions anyway.”
Ran’s body was drained.
“I see… well, the work is going on as written in the letters, and Elizabeth will have the documents.”
“I read it yesterday.”
“Yes?”
After answering, Ran suddenly recalled her dream last night.
“Yus.”
“Yes.”
“Uh, well, so.”
Ran rolled her eyes and asked cautiously.
“Were you here last night?”
“Yes.”
Oh, my God.
Ran covered her face with both hands. So last night wasn’t a dream? Yustaf heard all the crap she said yesterday?
“Sorry.”
“What?”
“Oh, I’ve been talking nonsense. Just forget it.”
“It was the first time I’d been praised for having pretty fingers.”
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Ran’s face was burning hot. She thought it was a dream, a dream, a dream!
“And, ”
Yustaf looked at Ran who covered her face with both of her hands. He could see the redness at the tip of her ears.
‘I can’t forget her words, don’t kill me?’
Killing her….
Yustaf looked down at Ran. He knew there was a choice to kill her. But he thought that if he were to kill someone, her parents would come first.
The crazy woman and his bewitched father.
However, both of them died in a carriage accident. ‘Even so, don’t kill me.’ Did she think that the anger that lost its aim would be directed at her?
Thinking about many things, Yustaf looked at Ran, who’s making excuses.
After making excuses for a long time, Ran opened her hands and glanced at Yustaf.
It was so quiet that she thought he wasn’t there, but was still standing and looking at her.. Ran’s heated face seemed to have calmed down a little, so Ran coughed and said,
“So I’d appreciate it if you’d just forget.”
Instead of answering, Yustaf gently touch her forehead with the back of his hand and said,
“Get some rest.”
“When he left, Ran turned over and buried her face in her pillow, screaming “Ah! Really!”.”
‘What did he think when I said “Don’t kill me”?’
‘No, this might work out .’
Now that he found out that she’s afraid of him, he might be more generous towards her.
While she was wriggling her head on the pillow, the maid returned with a medicine.
‘Ugh…’
The dark red, unidentified drug had a terrible herbal scent.
“Do I have to drink all of this?”
At her question, the woman said firmly, “You should drink it.”
Ran held her nose while crying and drank the medicine. She plugged her nose, but it still smelt awful.
As soon as she took the medicine, she emptied the glass of water and laid back on her bed.
“Get some more rest, my lord.”
Ran nodded. The woman soon took her glass and left the room quietly. Ran closed her eyes and tried to sleep.
How long has it been?
‘I can’t sleep.’
Come to think of it, it’s been two days since she fainted. She’s been sleeping for two days, hasn’t she?
She can’t fall asleep.
Ran slowly got up. The dizziness disappeared, either because of the medicine or after resting for quite some time.
She slipped out of bed and put on her jacket.
‘Let’s go to the library.’
She should get some books. No, actually it would be better to read some of the documents in the library. She could also talk about recruiting mining workers and managers…Ran quietly left her room with her slippers on.
Yustaf flipped over the papers. Most of the documents are now in a certain format, so it was easy to read quickly.
A million Verats.
The huge sum was unbelievable even to Yustaf. In addition, the draft was kept by Ran, so there was no difficulty in proceeding as it was.
He looked at the Ice Crystal on his desk.
She found it back then.
He still remembered that day clearly. Every New Year, the Duke of Lachia had a ritual to look at the door to check whether the seal had been broken or if there were any scratch marks.
They travel with the Knights, go to the Gate, and come back to hold a New Year’s party. It was a long held tradition.
And it was the first year that stepmother and Ran went with us. He remembered how the two of them sneaked out of the forest while they were coming back from the door.
He came back but Ran did not return.
‘I was beaten by my father for the first time.’
When they managed to find Ran, stepmother wrapped her in her skirt and stared at her with frightened eyes.
They thought Yustaf sent Ran into the woods.
He tried to deny it but they didn’t believe him, and Ran also didn’t open her mouth.
He was beaten hard by his father. Afterwards, he was beaten by his stepmother repeatedly, and the scar still lingers.
However, it was more shocking that he was beaten by his father than by his stepmother.
‘She found this.’
Yustaf thought, then closed his eyes and gently touched the crystal.
It is a crystal worth more than 1 million verats. It is worth more than the shame, anger, pain, and injustice he felt back then.
It’s not a bad deal.
He thought so and put the papers down.
“I think we can go on like this. What happened to the problem of hiring a new accountant?”
Elizabeth accepted the document and answered politely.
“I have selected a prominent person as a candidate and put him on the list.”
“I see.”
Elizabeth stood there hesitantly at his answer.
“What is it?”
“How’s the Lord?”
At the careful question, Yustaf’s fingers stopped. He looked up at Elizabeth for the first time.
Their eyes met and Elizabeth quickly lowered her head.
“She’s fine. They say she’s overworked. So I’ll take care of the documents for a while.”
“Okay.”
Elizabeth bowed down and quickly left the study. Standing behind the closed door, Elizabeth sighed briefly.
She must have done something wrong.
It’s been a little over a month and a half since Ran became a temporary head, and so many things happened. Everything revolves quickly around Ran, and now, as Yustaf took over, there were slight cracks.
It was a rift caused by anxiety.
When the boss changes, the system changes, and then they may have to start all over again.
It was that kind of anxiety.
“Elizabeth.”
Then someone called her and looked up in surprise. Ran was beckoning Elizabeth over.
“Lord?”
Elizabeth began to panic. Looking at her clothes, she just came out of bed and had tied a robe around herself tightly.
“Why are you here?”
“I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d go to the library and found you.”
Ran smiled lightly and held out her hand; Elizabeth unconsciously handed over the documents
When Elizabeth saw that she was flipping through the documents, she looked around and whispered quietly.
“The Master Yustaf has returned.”
“Yes, I know. He graduated early and came back. Isn’t it amazing?”
Elizabeth was speechless for a moment. Is she really not greedy? Not even a little bit? Or is she acting?
With that ability, she doesn’t even have the slightest bit of ambition?
“Is Yustaf working on the documents right now?”
“Yes, he is.”
“Then that’s enough.”
Ran stopped flipping through the papers and handed them over to Elizabeth.
“Is there anything you’d like to add?”
“Yes.”
Ran nodded.
“If you’re going to talk like this, just come to the study, sister and administrator.”
Both of them turned their heads in surprise at the voice they heard from behind them. Yustaf stood there like a shadow.
