– Did you hear that? The black-haired kid isn’t Valentine’s brother.
Louise frowned at what the adults said. He found out the secret when Louise was ten years old.
– Why do Isaac and Clara have different birthdays?
A child is not born until ten months later, so it makes no sense for Isaac, born in the spring, and Clara, born in the fall, to be the same age. The one who isn’t part of a real family is Clara, not him. Resentment built up in his young heart, and it deliberately made him grumpy.
It was for this reason that he went down the alley. Even Valentine’s mischievous third son can be recognised as an ordinary Louise here. He was not overshadowed by his older brothers, and they saw Louise for who he was, not because of his father or family name.
“That’s right, Louise.”
“Yes. Vivian.”
Vivian, the fairy, stroked the head of Louise, who was lying on her lap.
“Stay here, Louise. Because it has everything you could want.”
This poor child, who was weighed down by the name Valentine and couldn’t stretch his energy properly, looks like her.
“Vivian, will you stay with me forever?”
The boy’s recitation shook the fairy’s heart. When people came up to the fairy, she would always answer their questions and then leave. Vivian was always alone because she was taking care of the forest by herself.
“Sure. Of course.”
If she doesn’t mess around like this, no one will look for her. When they last went to see her, they were the same way. They said they liked a girl, but they didn’t even look at her before they left.
So this time, she has to take something precious from them. Vivian continued to gently stroke Louis’s head while singing him a sweet lullaby.
His mother said that she had always wanted to have a daughter. When Louise was born, his mother must have been very disappointed.
When his mother sighed in front of Louise, she always had sadness in her eyes. They said that his mother might have liked Louise if he had been born a girl.
“What are you saying?”
He was completely baffled by the voice that was blaring openly. When he raised his head to meet the face, he saw a woman with black hair and ivory skin, looking somewhat unfamiliar, looking down at him.
“Ciel?”
The voice is definitely his younger sister. After a single blink, he recognised his younger sister, who had her signature blonde hair. A nemesis in life who is ugly but somehow cute, and pretty but also annoying.
Ciel hugged Louise tightly with a face that looked like she was about to cry.
“I did everything wrong, brother.”
“Why are you so wet?”
The hem of Louise’s clothes became drenched as water seeped out from underneath her wet clothes. The body of his sister, who was as cold as ice, was trembling.
“I’m sorry. Please forgive me for once.”
She doesn’t have to be so sorry because Louise agreed to bring him here. But contrary to expectations, Ciel brought up the wrong story.
“It was me who got ketchup all over your shoes.”
“What?”
Ciel started apologising for her wrongdoing without anyone even asking her to. It was Ciel who told them that Louise was the one who had stolen and eaten the caramel candy hidden in the drawer, as well as the trick plant and that it was Louise who had broken their mother’s favourite vase.
“You, I was scolded so much then!”
“That’s why I said sorry!”
She also said that whenever she got the chance, she would steal and use the magic tools that Louise had hidden, and she even took the money that he had hidden to use for emergency purposes later. The fairy smiled confidently as she looked at Louis, who was shocked by his younger sister’s behaviour.
“Look, having a younger sibling is such annoying.”
The sweet words she whispers while hanging on the back of Louise, who is sitting down, are beyond disgusting. While nodding his head in agreement to those words, Louise turned his attention to his young sister who was seated in front of him.
He really hated it, but he still hated seeing a face that looked like she was about to cry. However, seeing that he had no intention of going back, Ciel raised his voice.
“Who gets to eat the cucumber sandwich without my brother?”
“What?”
“In our house, the only one who likes cucumber sandwiches is Louis. Even though she knows don’t like it, Madame Lisbon is deliberately preparing for you.”
Ciel persistently tried to persuade Louis, making excuses that didn’t exist.
It was not easy to understand why this was happening. Nothing would happen at home without him, so why is his younger sister so angry?
His mother always wanted to have a girl child, and unlike his two older brothers, Louise, who is not good enough, is just a spoiled brat to his family.
“That’s enough.”
“What?”
“Did you hear that?”
The fairy smiled in remorse. Ciel, angry to the tip of her head at his answer, shook off Louise’s hand with all her might and stormed out of her seat.
“You idiot, if you like this place so much, stay.”
“What?”
“Instead, all the money hidden under your bed is mine.”
“What?”
How is that money earned? No, what was more surprising was the fact that Ciel knew where the money was hidden. He put a strong protection spell on it so that even the maids cleaning his room wouldn’t notice.
Louise, embarrassed, got up from his seat and grabbed Ciel’s hand.
“You didn’t search there, did you?”
“Hmph. I know what’s there.”
He felt a shiver travel down his spine. There’s something in there that he can’t show his sister.
It might be better for him to die rather than be found out by his parents. Looking up at Louise’s bewildered face, Ciel nailed it quite well.
“If you don’t go back with me, I am going to take Meryl there and tell Mom. Mom will be so happy. Is not it?”
Louise infuriated, immediately chased after Ciel, who was running away. It’s hard to stay here even if it’s to scold that stupid sibling.
Suddenly, a light appeared in a corner of the dark room. When the substantial door finally opened, Ciel took the first step towards the exit. Someone grabbed Louise’s hand just as he was about to follow after her.
“Don’t go!”
Those hands were ice cold. A young woman with eyes as icy as metal reached out and grabbed hold of Louise’s hand. The fairy rejected Ciel’s request to take him and chose him.
Even if it was a sacrifice, the mere fact that she was chosen before Ciel made her feel a little proud.
She didn’t actually come to any harm, but rather she experienced a sense of relief afterwards. Louise came to a halt and turned around to take another look at the fairy that was dangling from him.
“You said your name is Vivian, right?”
Before, she looked like an adult, but now he looked like a child again. Although she was said to be a capricious and self-centred fairy, Louise somehow did not dislike this immaturity.
Maybe the reason this kid chose Louise was because he recognized his people. The fairy, who was especially lonesome among her family and said to have kept this forest alone, enticed Louise by piling jewels up around her and pushing them closer together.
“Don’t go. Stay here.”
There’s everything he wants here. But Louise turned his head for a moment and looked at his sister who was standing by the door. No matter how much he denies it, his mother will be sad if he doesn’t return home.
“I can’t stay here, but next time you come visit the capital.”
“What?”
“I’ll get you the signature of the handsome singer that you like. If I talk well to our guild leader, you might even get the chance to meet him in person.”
Instead, he doesn’t know what kind of request she’ll pass on, but he can still do that. Louise offered consolation to the fairy, albeit clumsily.
“Are you going to the capital?”
“Yes. There are quite a few rooms in my house, too. That person also brought her friend into the house, so what can I do that she can’t do?”
Louise glanced at his sister and patted the head of the fairy standing in front of him. He thinks Ciel was pretty cute when she was this age, but now that she’s grown so much, he even cringes when she tries to be cute.
“I don’t know about Ciel, but I always keep my promises.”
“Promise…”
“Yes. Vivian.”
No one calls her by her name. Louise called her name on purpose.
In the back alley, it occurred to him that just as she was Louis and not Valentine’s third child, she might also dislike this child and her own situation of being called only a fairy.
“I am…”
“You can’t leave this forest?”
Vivian shook her head and looked up at Louise. When he saw her with tears in her eyes, he thought she was quite cute, even with that slightly foreign appearance. If he looks at her as an adult, she will definitely be a beauty.
Unlike his cute little sister, Louise pinched the pretty fairy’s cheek slightly.
“So don’t cry, okay?”
Vivian gave a slight nod of her head. Suddenly, all of the walls that were obstructing his view of the surroundings vanished, and a brilliant light filled his field of vision.
Now it’s time to come back. Was it because of his feeling that he heard his father’s voice coming from somewhere? As he was engulfed in the warmth, Louise lost consciousness.
